Walkabout Park Roma Queensland
Walkabout Park and Mandandanji Interpretation Centre celebrates the ancient and continuing cultures of the Mandandanji people.
Sites such as Walkabout Park Roma are of particular importance to the Aboriginal people as many sites are now on private land or destroyed for developing farmland or mining.
The red kangaroo painting you see when you arrive is a Mandandanji totem.
Walkabout Park and the surrounding area is beside Bungil Creek and form part of an ancient Aboriginal burial ground.
A central feature of Walkabout Park Roma is a large boomerang shaped interpretation centre... visitors can walk around to look at examples of scarred trees, stone tools, ritual items and other significant material culture.
You can see photographs of traditional foods such as porcupine, bush limes, bush oranges and bush bananas, and of old Aboriginal shelters.
There is a wealth of Aboriginal heritage, history and information at Walkabout Park Roma Queensland.
